Between The Light
We have settled here
Where no roads lead,
Enclosed within forest
And the lurking in between the light.
Around our houses
All trees have been felled
To a vast pastures bathed in light
And we can see as far as our bounds.
Open to the sky,
Exposed on our sward
We are surrounded by the forest
And its lurking between the light.
At night when there is no light
Between which to lurk,
They come on the soaking darkness
And we light candles, bolt doors.
The setting sun invites shadows
Penetrating, trees or no trees
The forest converges on our sward
And this land becomes one.
So that they are free to come.
